About the Journal
The Journal of Gender and Multidisciplinary Studies (JGMS) is an institutionally hosted, peer-reviewed academic journal with international outlook. It is published by Centre for Gender Studies, Imo State University, Owerri, Nigeria and is designed to meet global best practices for scholarly publishing, international indexing, and academic integrity. The journal is available in both print and online formats, ensuring wide accessibility for local, regional, and international audiences.
JGMS is committed to promoting high-quality gender and multidisciplinary research that is relevant to policy, practice, and scholarship at national, regional, and global levels.
Aims and Scope
JGMS aims to:
● Promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary scholarship on gender issues.
● Encourage critical, feminist, and inclusive perspectives.
● Bridge theory, research, policy, and practice.
● Amplify voices and perspectives from the Global South while engaging global scholarship.
Scope includes (but is not limited to):
● Gender Studies and Feminist Theories
● Law, Human Rights, and Gender Justice
● Sociology, Anthropology, and Cultural Studies
● Economics, Development, and Gender Policy
● Public Health, Reproductive Rights, and Gender
● Education, Technology, Media, and Digital Rights
● Environment, Agriculture, and Gender
● Conflict, Peace, and Security Studies
Submissions should demonstrate clear relevance to gender analysis and/or inclusive social transformation.
The contents of the Journal shall be from Nigeria, other African countries and other regions of the world.
Types of Manuscripts Accepted
JGMS accepts the following categories of submissions:
● Original Research Articles (3,000–6,000 words)
● Review Articles (3,000–6,000 words)
● Conceptual/Theoretical Papers (3,000–6,000 words)
● Policy Briefs and Practice Notes (3,000–6,000 words)
● Case Studies (3,000–5,000 words)
● Book Reviews (1,000–1,500 words)
Word counts include references but exclude abstracts.
Publication Frequency
JGMS is published annually. Special issues may be published occasionally based on thematic relevance and editorial approval. The journal is to be produced in both print (ISSN–Print) and online (e-ISSN–Online) editions.
Open Access Policy
JGMS follows a hybrid open-access model:
● The online edition is fully open access, allowing readers worldwide to freely access, read, download, and share published articles.
● The print edition is distributed through institutional libraries, subscriptions, and official partners.
This policy aligns with international indexing and visibility requirements while supporting institutional sustainability.
Peer Review Policy
JGMS operates a double-blind peer review system consistent with international publishing standards.
● Each submission is initially screened by the editorial office for scope, formatting, and ethical compliance.
● Eligible manuscripts are reviewed by at least two independent reviewers, including where possible one international reviewer.
● Review criteria include originality, methodological rigor, theoretical contribution, clarity, relevance, and ethical standards.
Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement
JGMS adheres to international publication ethics standards, including those of COPE.
Authors’ Responsibilities
● Submissions must be original and not under consideration elsewhere.
● All sources must be properly cited.
● Authors must disclose conflicts of interest.
● Adhere to accepted standards of research ethics.
● Obtain informed consent where human participants are involved.
● Avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification.
Reviewers’ Responsibilities
● Maintain confidentiality of manuscripts.
● Provide objective and constructive feedback.
● Declare conflicts of interest.
Editors’ Responsibilities
● Ensure fair and unbiased editorial decisions.
● Maintain confidentiality.
● Address allegations of misconduct promptly.
Plagiarism Policy
JGMS maintains a strict anti-plagiarism policy in line with international indexing requirements.
● All submissions are screened using plagiarism-detection software.
● Manuscripts exceeding acceptable similarity thresholds will be returned, rejected, or withdrawn.
● Confirmed cases of plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification after publication may result in retraction and notification of relevant institutions.
Conflict of Interest Policy
Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the research or editorial process.
Data Availability and Research Transparency
Authors are encouraged to:
● Clearly describe methodologies.
● Provide access to data where possible, subject to ethical and legal considerations.
